Hair loss treatments of the future

We have seen several advancements in all kinds of medical treatments including treatment for hair loss in recent years and as research and development improve so does the advancements for hair loss treatments.

The future may bring us innovative new devices and treatments that may even cure baldness. Today, scientists are researching gene therapies that can alter the genetic defenselessness to hair loss. The development however, for the cure is more than likely decades away.

On the other hand, drug treatments that slow down the balding process seem very likely. Some drugs today are showing success in slowing or even stopping hair loss.

Drugs that are working today:

Propecia: blocks the conversion of testorsterone into dihydrotestosterone Inhibits the activity of one type of 5-alpha-reductase enzyme Dutasteride: inhibits the development of hair loss by causing DHT hormones inhibits the activities of two types of 5-alpha-reductase enzymes shown to decrease levels of DHT by 90% after only two weeks

Multiple hair graft

Another option for hair loss is hair transplants. Today, the amount of hair you can transplant is decided by how much hair you can relocate from your own head. In the future, it might be possible to create multiple hair follicles from only one hair follicle. At this time, this process known by hair cloning and is under investigation by research scientists and restoration doctors. This would be great for those that are limited by the amount of hair they have to relocate to balding areas. This would give the physician unlimited amounts of hair.

Cloning of hair follicles

Cloning hair follicles is the most probable future hair loss treatment as this will give physicians unlimited amounts of hair follicles to use in case of balding men and women. This way the hair will be exactly like the hair they now have and will not have to be relocated. The research is in underway, but the technology is not expected to be seen for general public for at least 10 years.

Hair loss treatments will keep improving over the next decade and hopefully a cure will be found instead that will prevent hair loss, however, if no cure is found the new innovative treatments are sure to help everyone with all types of baldness. Medications to aid in hair growth or hair transplants are sure to improve while research is being done and development of the various processes are underway. Maybe in the near future, baldness will be a thing of the past.
